Boron Wines – Our 15-Year Story with a Veneto Family Winery

21 hours on the road. And wines we'd do it again for.

We first discovered Boron wines through a sommelier more than 15 years ago. We've been buying from the family ever since. In that time we've got to know them, visited the winery and even driven from Milton Keynes to northern Italy to collect two pallets ourselves.

A trip we won't forget

One driver. One injured shoulder. Two pallets of wine.

Nicholas and Giovanni had planned to collect the wine themselves. Then, a week before leaving, Giovanni broke his shoulder. The trip still went ahead, but Nicholas ended up driving the whole way.

Giovanni was stuck in the passenger seat, not particularly happy about being unable to help, and naturally had plenty to say about it. After 21 hours on the road from Milton Keynes, we finally made it to the winery. We loaded up the two pallets and got ready for the journey home. It's a trip we still laugh about.

We know the Boron family personally now, including Sabrina. There’s always a good laugh to be had, and that relationship means just as much to us as the bottles.

The Boron collection

The Boron wines we keep coming back to.

There's plenty to choose from at Boron, whether you prefer a good red, a fresh white or something with bubbles. Here are a few of the styles we keep coming back to.

01 / Red wines

With a bit of character

Malbech when we fancy something with a kick; Merlot when we're after a smoother glass.

02 / White wines

Fresh and food-friendly

Lison Classico is one we keep coming back to. A lovely white from their home region.

03 / Rosé bubbles

Worth celebrating

We're particularly fond of their rosé Prosecco — bright, lively and easy to enjoy.

04 / Semi-sparkling Prosecco

Prosecco Frizzante

Gently fizzy and wonderfully fresh. We get lovely pear notes from this one, and it's a favourite of ours served chilled.

Meet the producer

A family winery we've known for years.

The Boron family's winemaking story began in 1954 with Remigio and Amedeo. Today Sabrina, Andrea and Roberto carry that work forward in Loncon di Annone Veneto, in the Lison-Pramaggiore area of northern Italy.

We've dealt with them for years and seen the winery for ourselves. We love the consistency: the quality is there every time, and they know how to get wine moving. We've ordered two or three pallets on a Friday and had them in our UK warehouse by the following Thursday.

That kind of service doesn't happen by accident. It's one of the reasons we've kept coming back for more than 15 years.

The land and the work

Good wine starts long before the bottle.

There's more to these wines than the journey to our warehouse. Boron's vineyards, the local climate and the care in the winery all matter. The estate is part of the wider Veneto wine region, which has plenty more to discover.

01 / THE PLACE

Veneto's Lison country

Boron is based in Loncon, right in the Lison DOC area. We saw the vineyards for ourselves when we collected the wine.

02 / THE VINEYARDS

35 hectares of vines

The family cultivates vineyards across the local area, where the soils and climate suit a broad mix of Italian varieties.

03 / THE WINERY

Made on site

From grape pressing and fermentation to bottling, Boron handles the production process at the estate.

Inside the winery

We've seen where it all happens.

Walking into the winery gives you a better idea of the work behind each bottle. The stainless-steel tanks, the equipment and rows of finished wines are a reminder that this is a serious operation, even if the welcome always feels personal.

For us, Boron is a family we know and wines we're happy to put on our own table. It's as simple as that.

More about Famiglia Boron

Get to know the wines a little better.

Why has Donzella Wines worked with Boron for so long?

We were introduced by a sommelier more than 15 years ago. The quality and consistency have kept us buying, but knowing the people behind the wine matters too. We've visited in person, met the family and collected wine ourselves.

What red wine should I try?

For something with a bit of punch, Nicholas would choose Boron's Malbech. If you prefer your reds softer and smoother, their Merlot is a brilliant place to start. The shop above has the full range currently in stock.

What makes Lison Classico worth trying?

Lison Classico DOCG is a white wine closely connected to this part of Veneto. Boron's version is elegant and food-friendly, with floral notes and a gentle almond finish. It's one of our favourites from the estate.

Do Boron make sparkling wines too?

Yes. Their range includes Prosecco, rosé Prosecco and a semi-sparkling Prosecco (Frizzante). We particularly enjoy the rosé and the gentle bubbles and fruity character of the Frizzante.

From their family to ours — and now to yours.
